There is no cure for addiction, but we have a program that will help you manage it: first you must turn your will to God as you understand him. Don’t worry it’s not a religious program. If you are Christian then your god can be Jesus, and if you are another religion then you may choose the god(s) of that religion. If you are not religious at all, then you may choose Science, or “Good Orderly Direction”, or even AA itself: “Group of Drunks”! It doesn’t matter what you choose, as long as it is something more powerful than yourself. Remember, you are powerless to your cravings, which can kill you. It’s a disease, perhaps not an allergy as originally thought, but a chronic, relapsing brain disease. Every day it is better understood by science, but until we find the cure, you can go to AA and join other victims of the disease, each of whom has chosen his or her own conception of god to give him the power to recover.
The documentary “Oh My God” examines various religious conceptions of God around the world. The creator and director of the film was frustrated with the religious turmoil, fanaticism, and fundamentalism that he saw:
It seemed clear to me that it was more the word “God” than what God stood for that was causing all this conflict and pain. Human beings had lost sight of the truth of what they worshipped, and a lot of them were pawns being manipulated by people who had no qualms at all about using God’s name to further their political agendas. And the majority of those perpetrators felt they were acting in the best interests of mankind under the banner of the God they worshipped — and around we go…. I was convinced that God was an invention of man… yet was probably the motor that drove our world…. God’s silence was deafening. OMG Chronicles
Perhaps AA really has it right. Maybe the insistence of each group of people on a dogmatic belief in their own god is not only the basis of violence and global strife, but possibly compulsive substance abuse as well.
The creator of the film, Peter Rodger, didn’t believe in any traditional conceptions of god, but he had strong spiritual convictions. When his son was experiencing some difficulties in life, he gave him “The Secret”. This book explains the Law of Attraction: that you succeed by imagining your success. If you really believe it, it will come true. The book explains the science behind “wishful thinking”. It’s like a religion for those who prefer to choose their own god(s).
His son describes the experience:
My father gave me a book called The Secret after I had dinner at his house in February. He said it will help me develop a positive attitude. The idea was ridiculous, of course, but the world is such a ridiculous place already that I figured I might as well give it a try. I bought a few Megamillions Lottery tickets and visualized myself being the winner. A part of me knew it was impossible to will the universe to make me the winner just by wishing for it on a rooftop, but I was so desperate that I wanted to believe I could. I wanted to believe I had the POWER to do it. After failing to win when the jackpot reset because someone else won, I lost all faith in that book, and I almost ripped it apart in frustration.
But he didn’t destroy the book. A year later he tried again:
I believed that it was destiny for me to win the Megamillions Lottery, particularly this very jackpot. I started to picture a whole new, perfect life for myself after I won…. I had been through so much rejection, suffering, and injustice…. I spent $700 dollars on lottery tickets for this drawing…. I imagined all the amazing sex I would have with a beautiful model girlfriend I would have once I become a man of wealth.
Although the boy’s lottery dreams were dashed again, he did not give up. He had still grander wishes:
I will cut them, flay them, strip all the skin off their flesh, and pour boiling water all over them while they are still alive, as well as any other form of torture I could possibly think of. I can only imagine how sweet it will be to ram the SUV into all of those groups of popular young people who I’ve always witnessed walking right in the middle of the road as if they are better than everyone else. I will specifically target the good looking people, and all of the couples.
His dream came true. The boy is Elliot Rodger, Santa Barbara serial killer, child of the godless.

I believe that Peter Rodger is really his step dad and his mother is really Soumaya Akaaboune who is supposed to be his step mother. I believe Simon Astaire wrote the manifesto. Very good analysis on this blog
Wow. The power of falsehood, the power of fantasy. Grand delusion. Delusion always has a very bad outcome. So- called ” New Age” teachings, that is, entry level satanism, distorts utterly personal power into witchcraft, ie., manipulations, controlling others, instead of what personal power is for, that being for controlling self, making choices, and directing one’s own life, Self- determination. With witchcraft, it becomes twisted to manipulate others for one’s own fantasy- based self-destructive purposes. They don’t understand that by destroying others, they are in reality destroying themselves. And this is what the current culture is teaching, that self is god. Now that is hell. Of course, that’s what humanism has been about. But drawn to its furthest point, is total hell
